The year 2002 marks the sixth year of continuous accreditation for the Physical Therapy (PT) program at MU. MU’s PT program is unique among physical therapist education programs. The PT program curriculum is a modified problem-based design with formidable research and evidence-based physical therapy practice as integral themes. By nature of its curriculum design, the PT program is student-centered. Students are expected to actively participate in all areas of instruction and are challenged to maximize their knowledge across all environments. The program and its faculty are committed to students, the community and to the profession of physical therapy. The MU PT program is the product of continuous evaluation and development with input from students, clinical faculty and the community. The program is comprehensive, directed toward preparation of scholarly practitioners well prepared for general practice. The most visible program outcome is a licensed physical therapist who possesses high ethical standards and is valued significantly by those served. The MU PT program faculty is devoted to an open and active learning environment. The faculty believes in the value, dignity and human potential of each student who enters the program. The faculty strives to provide diverse learning opportunities in a caring environment, and encourages each student to realize his or her potential. How is the MU’s Physical Therapy Program Unique?
Master of Science in Health Promotion ManagementBack to topThe Master of Science in Health Promotion Management helps students explore both the why and the how of health behavior. The program aims to provide graduates with the knowledge and skills to function effectively as health educators who design, implement, manage and evaluate health promotion and wellness programs in diverse settings -- the workplace, schools, hospitals and the community. Health Promotion Management (HPM) is a 36-credit program consisting of 24 core credits and six or more credit of HPM program electives. These electives may be chosen from graduate courses in health promotion management, business, human resources, psychology, physical therapy or nursing. Students in this program find their learning enhanced by an internship that provides practical experience in a real-world setting. Opportunities are available in local, regional, and national agencies and organizations. Master of Science in Health Care ManagementBack to topThe dynamics of managed competition and the continued restructuring of federal health care programs have altered the traditional fee-for-service delivery and payment system for health care in all segments of the health care industry (hospitals, physician services, suppliers, insurers, payors and human resources). These ongoing changes will demand individuals with advanced skills to manage and direct in this dynamic environment. The Master of Science in Health Care Management (HCM) in the School of Business Administration provides an advanced level of understanding of the financing, managing and changing reimbursement processes; and of the future national policy goals and their legal implications for the United States' health care system. The HCM program has candidate status from the Accrediting Commission for Education in Health Services Administration (ACEHSA).
