Medical Assistant - Diploma

As a professional Medical Assistant, graduates can work in private physicians' offices and may have a combination of administrative and clinical responsibilities. Medical Assistants are often found in clinics, hospital admissions, patient records and insurance departments. Some Medical Assistants find employment in medical labs or blood banks.

Graduates of this program may perform duties in both the administrative and clinical areas of a doctor's office, clinic or other medical facility. Some graduates may specialize in either clinical or administrative duties, but most perform duties in both areas. Specific duties may include assisting the physician with exams and minor surgery, administering medication, performing electrocardiographs, phlebotomy, minor laboratory procedures, taking vital signs, interviewing patients for medical histories, medical record documentation, reception duties, insurance billing, and bookkeeping duties.

The objective of the medical assistant program is to prepare students with the knowledge, technical skills and work habits required for entry-level positions in the healthcare field. This program includes instruction in both the clinical and administrative aspects of medical assisting, anatomy and physiology, and CPR certification. Graduation is acknowledged by awarding a diploma upon completion of the program. Graduates may become Certified Medical Assistants by passing the Certified Medical Assistant Examination.
