The objective of the Medical Billing and Coding Specialist
Science Program is to prepare the student with no prior
experience to develop the skills to become a medical records
technician, medical record abstractor, medical biller, insurance
claim administrator or coding specialist. The optional 1-month
externship allows additional career inroads for those whose
ultimate goal is medical coding.

The objective of these programs is to prepare an individual to
enter the medical field in the capacity of medical assistant,
medical office manager, medical secretary or medical
transcriptionist. Other opportunities exist in the hospital
setting as a patient care technician, EKG technician, unit
secretary or ward clerk. In addition, graduates are able to
immediately sit for Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) exam.
The optional 1-month EKG externship allows additional career
inroads for those whose ultimate goal is EKG technology.

The objective of these programs is to prepare the student to
enter the medical field in the capacity of medical assistant,
medical office manager, medical secretary, medical
transcriptionist, office sonographer, insurance specialist or
coding technician. Other opportunities exist in the hospital
setting as a patient care technician, EKG evaluator, unit
secretary, ward clerk, entry level medical records technician,
non-invasive cardiac tech, beginning ultrasound technician or
beginning cardiovascular technician. The externships allow
additional career inroads for those whose ultimate goal is
ultrasound technology. Graduates are able to immediately sit for
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) exam.
Medical Secretarial / Transcribing Science - Certificate (Day)

The objective of the Medical Secretarial/Transcribing Science
Program is to prepare an individual to enter the medical field in
the capacity of Medical Secretary, Medical Transcriptionist or
Medical Biller. Other opportunities exist in the hospital setting
as a unit secretary or ward clerk. Graduates are eligible to sit
for the exam to be certified as a Microsoft Office User
Specialist (MOUS) in Microsoft Word.
Surgical and Infection Control Technologist - Diploma (Day)

The objective of this program is to prepare students with the knowledge and skills they need to pursue entry-level positions as surgical assistants in the hospital setting. Considering job opportunities in the office/outpatient setting, which may require additional clinical and administrative skills, our program includes core medical assisting competencies. Graduates of this program will be eligible to sit for the Tech in Surgery - Certified (TS-C); National Certified ECG Technician (NCET); and National Certified Phlebotomy Technician (NCPT) exams administered by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Graduates are also eligible to sit for the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification exam offered by the American Medical Technologists (AMT). Up to 35 semester hours of appropriate ACE (American Council on Education) credit recommendations from courses shared with the Medical Assisting Program can be utilized for Thomas Edison State College's Associate Degree in Applied Science in Medical Assisting.
