Medical Assistant - Associate of Applied Science

This curriculum has been designed to prepare graduates for entry-level positions as medical assistants in physician's offices, group practices, clinics or health maintenance organizations. In some instances, graduates will be able to work in hospital departments. Medical assistants will be able to perform procedures such as taking vital signs and sterilization. The student will learn the language of pharmacology, how to administer electrocardiograms, hematology tests and other laboratory procedures, as well as other diagnostic procedures.

The medical assistant will be able to perform administrative duties including medical office software utilization, coding insurance forms, filing insurance claims, scheduling patients, preparing employee payroll and creating and maintaining patient files in the office.

The medical assisting program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) on recommendation of the Curriculum Review Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants' Endowment (AAMAE). The program will assist students in preparing for the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam sponsored by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).
