The health care field offers a variety of interesting and
challenging career opportunities to graduates of the medical
administrative assistant program. In this program, students
receive education that emphasizes the administrative and business
aspects of managing a medical or dental office. With strong
administrative skills, graduates can become an integral part of a
health care facility. Entry-level positions as receptionists,
insurance processors, medical records clerks, and medical
transcribers are found in medical and dental offices, hospitals,
clinics, home health agencies and insurance companies. Students
in this program develop administrative skills through a variety
of media including personal computers, calculators, transcription
machines and teletrainers.

The medical assisting program prepares graduates for entry-level
work as both clinical and administrative assistants to doctors in
offices and clinics. Graduates will gain thorough knowledge of
anatomy, basic clinical and laboratory tasks, and administrative
duties. The College offers both a certificate and diploma medical
assisting program. Courses in these programs include:
Musculoskeletal and Nervous Systems, which is the study of
anatomy, physiology, diseases, and examination and investigation
procedures of the muscular, skeletal, and nervous systems;
Hematology and Microbiology studies structure, composition and
function of the blood, as well as blood diseases; and Pulmonary
and Cardiovascular Systems, which teaches structure and function
of the respiratory cardiovascular system, diseases and
investigation procedures, EKG equipment, physiology and basic
interpretation of arrhythmias.

You will learn the basic concepts and procedures necessary to
perform the tasks involved in health insurance as well as
insurance claim forms. You will also gain knowledge of basic
coding definitions and how to apply those codes to medical
documentation. To succeed in this field, you will need to possess
a combination of skills. A thorough knowledge of medical
terminology, preparing and processing of insurance claims, set up
and maintenance of patient records, and proper code selection and
application are all essential tools for this profession. Strong
computer and keyboarding skills are also vital to the
effectiveness of these jobs.
This program offers simulated practice where you manually and
electronically prepare insurance claims. You will practice
interviewing and documenting skills to obtain the necessary
patient information for successfully completing and managing
claims.

The Massage Therapy program provides the basic knowledge, tools,
ethics, and behaviors that will enable you to successfully
practice as a massage therapist in a variety of health care
settings. You will gain in-depth educational skills that increase
your knowledge and develop specialized techniques of massage.

The Massage Therapist program is taught over a three-quarter
period, with each quarter encompassing different courses of
study. You will have the practical experience to obtain
employment as a massage therapist in a number of health care
settings, including medical and rehabilitation clinics,
hospitals, and doctors' and chiropractors' offices. Opportunities
also exist in health spas, hotels, fitness centers, sports
organizations, tourist destinations, and cruise ships. There is
the possibility of going into private practice as well.
